Abstract

The use of mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) has increased in the industrial and construction sectors due to their efficiency in performing work at heights. However, improper use of this equipment can result in serious accidents, including falls, tip-overs, and electric shocks. This research aimed to analyze the main occupational risks associated with the use of aerial work platforms and to discuss preventive measures based on regulatory standards and international scientific literature. The methodology consisted of a bibliographic and documentary review based on scientific articles indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO, as well as an analysis of technical reports and regulatory standards. The results indicated that the primary factors associated with accidents include operational errors, a lack of adequate training, and deficiencies in safety management. Additionally, statistical data analysis showed that construction projects lacking the formalization of formal record of technical responsibility, carry a higher risk of technical irregularities and account for nearly half of all regulatory citations. It is concluded that the implementation of training programs and safety management systems, combined with strengthened oversight and strict adherence to specific technical regulations (ABNT NBR 16776 and NR-35) are essential measures for mitigating risks and significantly reducing occupational accidents
