Resumo

The evaporative cooling process applied to air conditioning is an environmentally friendly system that uses air and water as working fluids. It can be an economical alternative to the vapor compression system in several applications. This paper presents the basic principles of the evaporative cooling process for human thermal comfort, the operation principles for direct, indirect, multi steps and hybrids evaporative cooling systems and presents technical considerations for the efficient use of these systems to air conditioning. It also presents some environmental and economical benefits proceeding of the utilization of this system.
