Abstract

The growing scarcity of water resources and the deficit in basic sanitation in Brazil have driven the search for sustainable and technologically innovative solutions. In this context, water retreatment and reuse stand out as fundamental strategies for the efficient management of water resources. The objective of this study was to critically analyze the water retreatment process developed by a company that holds an innovative environmental technology in the São José dos Campos/SP Technological Park, thus evaluating the environmental, social, and operational impacts. The research has a qualitative approach, of a descriptive nature, based on bibliographic review, document analysis, and case study. The results show high system efficiency, with Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) removal exceeding 97%, in addition to a significant reduction in potable water consumption and environmental impacts. Although challenges related to initial implementation costs and the need for organizational adaptation remain, it can be concluded that water retreatment presents itself as a viable strategic solution for water sustainability, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal number six (SDG 6), which aims for efficient water use and reduced pollution by 2030.
