Abstract

Neuroergonomics, viewed from an educational and preventative perspective, is an important technical resource in the analysis of gluteal muscle amnesia syndrome in human aging. Gluteal muscle amnesia syndrome, popularly known as "forgotten butt syndrome," is characterized by neural inhibition of the gluteal muscles, especially the gluteus medius. In the context of aging, this condition is aggravated by sedentary behavior and sarcopenia. In this sense, this research aims, from a neuroergonomics perspective, to investigate how the failure in mind-muscle communication impacts postural stability and the autonomy that prepares the human body throughout aging. The methodology included a literature review and indicated that early intervention based on neuroergonomics principles mitigates the risks of immobility, falls, and chronic lower back pain. As a result, the transition to a sedentary lifestyle has generated significant musculoskeletal dysfunctions, notably gluteal amnesia, which is responsible for the reciprocal inhibition of the gluteus maximus and medius muscles. It is concluded that prolonged sitting alters pelvic biomechanics and promotes progressive muscle atrophy, resulting in adjacent pathologies in the lumbar spine and lower limbs. For older and sedentary individuals, this contributes to inactivity, social isolation due to the need for assistive mobility technologies, and in more severe cases, apathy towards life.
