Abstract

This study aimed to identify and quantify through the phytosociological method, the species of weeds in orchards producing guavas at different periods. The survey was conducted in the area of production of guava, Paluma cultivar. The sample community was conducted in three distinct periods: October 2010, January and June 2011, using the methodology inventory square. In the first collection (October) 12 species, distributed in 10 families were found. On January 12 species belonging to nine families were identified. In the third and final season review 13 species were identified. The Brachiaria decumbens and nut grass were the species that stood out in all evaluation periods, with high values of density and frequency, so there is the need to control such species.

Seeds of all species showed low germination, with no significant difference between controls and heat shock treatments. Storage reduced the percentage of germination of E. tanacetifolium and S. luzulifolia, this one is in the list of extinction threatened species. The other species were not affected by storage, indicating that they can be stored in the experimental condition. The species showed different average time required for germination and germination speed index, with low influence of treatments on these parameters.
