Abstract

Adulterations or falsifications are frequent in commercialized honeys, being usually carried out the falsification of the label and the adulteration of the chemical characteristics through the addition of other products in the honey. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the labeling and quality of honey sold in the municipalities of Camapuã, Campo Grande, Bandeirantes and Jaraguari in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The collection of honeys took place at random in stores in the aforementioned municipalities, with 23 samples being collected. Lugol and moisture analyzes were carried out using a manual refractometer. Regarding the label part, a checklist was elaborated, which contained all the information about how the labeling of products should be, as recommended by current regulations, with 21 items. Among the analyzed items, only the denomination of product of animal origin and the liquid content that appeared in all the samples, and all the others did not appear in any of the analyzed samples. The results showed that only 4.76% of the inspected labels are in accordance with the legislation's specifications, while 95.24% of the honey labels showed some non-compliance. Therefore, the analyzed labels showed non-compliance with current legislation, demonstrating that an increasingly intensive inspection of products is necessary, in order to protect consumers against adulterated or low-quality products.
